Urologist Nathan Robert Starke, M.D., has been fired
A Houston surgeon's history of violence has come to light following a positive cocaine test while in the operating room. Dr. Nathan Robert Starke, an urologist, has been dismissed from his position at Houston Methodist Hospital, and his medical license has been temporarily suspended after testing positive for cocaine and kratom, an herb with opioid-like properties, in October, as reported by local TV station Fox 26.
Compounding his issues, Starke's extensive criminal history has also emerged. Most notably, he was arrested last year for assaulting his girlfriend, during which he allegedly threw her to the ground, resulting in a chipped tooth. Additionally, he faced two prior arrests for suspected drunk driving in 2007 and 2017.
It remains uncertain whether the hospital was aware of his legal issues. However, it is known that his drug use had been under scrutiny since at least 2023, when he was suspended for what the hospital described as 'impairment,' according to ABC 13 in Houston. Despite being involved in drug and alcohol screenings, he continued to perform surgeries.
