Paris Fury's Past Comments Resurface Following Tyson's Boxing Retirement Announcement
An old interview with Paris Fury has resurfaced following her husband Tyson's recent announcement of his retirement from boxing. In a brief statement shared via social media, Fury confirmed he was stepping away from the sport for good, following his consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, the latest of which was a unanimous decision loss in December.
In the wake of the announcement, an interview with Paris from before Tyson's victory over Francis Ngannou in October 2023 has garnered attention. During the interview, Paris revealed her long-standing hopes for her husband's retirement, saying, "I wanted him to retire a few years ago. He isn't doing it."
She continued, discussing Tyson's struggles with retirement, which were documented in his Netflix series: "He doesn't like being retired. But I'm hoping after Usyk, that's the end of the fight. What more could he prove? What more can he do?"
Tyson Fury, 36, confirmed his decision to retire with a short video posted on social media. In the clip, he said, "Hi everybody, I'm going to make this short and sweet. I'd like to announce my retirement from boxing. It's been a blast, I've loved every single minute of it. I'm going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side. GET UP!"
This isn't the first time Tyson has hinted at retirement. After his win over Dillian Whyte in 2022, he declared that he was "done" with boxing, citing his health, wealth, and family as reasons to walk away. Despite this, he returned to the ring later that year to face Derek Chisora.
Amidst Fury's retirement announcement, rumors had circulated earlier this month about a potential fight between him and Anthony Joshua, with some speculating that "The Battle of Britain" could take place in 2025. However, Eddie Hearn later revealed that the fight is contingent on whether Fury would be willing to compete after his recent loss to Usyk.
As Paris Fury’s comments from the past illustrate, the decision to retire has long been a topic of discussion within the Fury family. Tyson’s fans and the boxing world will now wait to see if this truly marks the end of his illustrious career.
