Liverpool Fans Concerned Over Elon Musk's Potential Interest in Club Ownership
Liverpool fans are expressing unease following reports that billionaire Elon Musk may have an interest in purchasing the Premier League leaders. Musk, the world’s richest person with an estimated net worth of £334 billion, has not confirmed any concrete negotiations, but his father, Errol Musk, acknowledged his son’s interest in owning the club.
In an interview with Times Radio, Errol Musk laughed when asked about the potential purchase and said, "I can't comment on that. They'll raise the price." While he admitted his son would like to buy the club, he stopped short of saying any discussions had taken place. "Anybody would want to – so would I!" Errol added.
When probed about why Musk is particularly interested in Liverpool, Errol explained that his family has deep-rooted connections to the city. "His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we had relatives there. We were fortunate to know quite a lot of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we are attached to Liverpool," he revealed.
Despite this family connection, Liverpool supporters have expressed widespread concern about the idea of Musk owning the club. Fans cited Musk’s controversial actions and statements, particularly regarding his management of X (formerly Twitter) and his political affiliations. Recently, Musk has faced mounting criticism over his involvement with Republican politics, including reportedly donating $270 million to help Donald Trump’s return to the White House.
One fan expressed strong opposition on X, writing, “Anybody that's in favour of Elon Musk buying Liverpool can do one,” while another said, “Any Liverpool fan wanting Elon Musk to buy isn't a Liverpool fan.” A third fan voiced their disbelief, stating, "I don't believe there is a single genuine Liverpool fan that wants Elon Musk anywhere near the club."
The growing backlash reflects the concerns many fans have about the potential impact of Musk's ownership, particularly given his polarizing public image and political ties.
