Seagull Struck by James Vince's Powerful Hit in BBL Match, Leaves Crowd Stunned

James Vince’s powerful hitting was on full display during Thursday’s Big Bash League match at the MCG, but unfortunately, a seagull became an unintended victim of his blistering shot. The English import for the Sydney Sixers belted a ball back past Melbourne Stars paceman Joel Paris, only for the rock-hard cricket ball to collide with a seagull in mid-flight.

In dramatic scenes, the bird was struck by the ball and then bounced over the boundary rope as spectators looked on in disbelief. A security guard was seen promptly taking the injured bird off the field.

Commentators were quick to react, with Mark Howard noting, "Oh no, oh no. We've been talking about it all night. Gilly [Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist], you said something would happen. Hopefully S Gull is OK." Ben Duckett, who was mic'd up and fielding nearby, expressed concern, saying, "He didn’t look in a good way there... I think he's dead... it didn't look too nice, it actually hit him so hard."

This wasn’t the first seagull mishap in BBL history. Back in 2015, a seagull was struck by a shot from Adam Voges during a match between the Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars, but after some help, it made a full recovery.

Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell’s outstanding performance played a pivotal role in Melbourne Stars’ 16-run upset over the ladder-leading Sixers. Maxwell, who was recently left out of the Sri Lanka tour squad, responded by scoring an unbeaten 58 and taking two key catches. "Credit to Maxi," said Stars skipper Marcus Stoinis. "He might be disappointed about the Test squad, but the true professional he is, he showed us what he can do."

The win kept the Stars’ slim finals hopes alive despite a tough start to the season, with the team needing to win their last two matches and rely on other results to qualify. As for the Sixers, their defeat was a missed opportunity to strengthen their grip on the top spot ahead of their clash against the Perth Scorchers.
