Thieves utilizing e-bikes will go to great lengths to avoid detection and capture, states PC Smith, aged 25.
"If that entails putting the public at risk, they will not hesitate to do so.

"When my partner and I first observed Stringer, he was navigating around a bus and was about to veer onto the sidewalk, where a mother was holding her child's hand while pushing a stroller.
"These bikes can reach speeds of up to 70 mph and possess considerable weight, so had he collided with the mother and her children, the outcome could have been fatal or resulted in serious injuries.

"I had to make a split-second decision, but I recognized immediately that it was the correct course of action."
Stringer, 28, from Islington, North London, sustained a knee injury during the incident in the City of London and was sentenced to two years in prison in August after pleading guilty to ten charges, including theft, dangerous driving, and operating without insurance, at Isleworth Crown Court in West London.

Over the summer, dashcam footage of Stringer being knocked off his e-bike gained widespread attention, much to the relief of victims who had their phones stolen. During police questioning, he consistently responded with, "No comment."

Although he worked night shifts near Smithfield meat market in London, it was evident that committing phone thefts during the day proved to be more profitable until he faced the repercussions.

The charges against him reflected the extent to which he and an accomplice instilled fear in victims across London's West End and financial district on March 26, when they embarked on a phone theft spree that netted Stringer alone approximately two dozen handsets valued at around £20,000.

His method involved trailing behind victims on his quiet, Surron-branded electric motorbike as they used their phones. With practiced precision, he would swiftly snatch the devices and accelerate away.
