Body Language Expert Highlights Key Difference Between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry While Serving Food to LA Wildfire Victims
Meghan Markle was described as both "practical" and "emotional" during her visit with Prince Harry to meet survivors of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, according to a body language expert. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who reside in Montecito near Santa Barbara, approximately 90 miles from LA, visited the Pasadena Convention Centre, which has been repurposed as an evacuation hub. Accompanied by Jennifer Newsom, the wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom, the couple provided comfort to wildfire victims and distributed food parcels on Friday.
Demonstrating their commitment to relief efforts, Meghan, 43, and Harry, 40, have contributed donations through their Archewell Foundation. They also extended an invitation to loved ones who were displaced, offering refuge in their $14.5 million Montecito home. While engaging with survivors, the couple took a hands-on approach, standing alongside Jennifer Newsom to personally distribute food packages and speak with evacuees. According to Judi James, a body language expert, Meghan displayed a balance between practicality and emotional connection, offering an "emotionally intense hug" to one of the victims while maintaining a "natural" demeanor throughout the event.
Judi noted Meghan’s ability to immerse herself in the moment. Speaking to FEMAIL, she explained: “Meghan’s body language reveals two distinct approaches here. On one hand, she is very much ‘getting stuck in,’ focused on physically helping with food distribution. Her 'head-down' demeanor suggests she’s prioritizing practicality over performance, allowing the task at hand to take precedence over engaging in a media frenzy.” In contrast, Harry appeared slightly less at ease. Judi observed that his body language seemed to "mirror" Meghan’s, reflecting what she interpreted as mild discomfort compared to his wife’s more confident presence.
Speaking to The Mirror, Judi further remarked that the couple’s actions during the visit cast them as the “US version” of the royals, combining a sense of accessibility with a focus on hands-on humanitarian efforts.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry displayed a compassionate and hands-on approach as they assisted survivors of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, according to body language expert Judi James. Meghan was noted for her "natural" and empathetic demeanor, while Harry mirrored her actions with a slightly more reserved approach. The couple joined food organizers at the Pasadena Convention Centre, where they distributed food parcels and interacted with evacuees. Judi observed that their efforts evolved from practical tasks to more "tactile" moments, with Meghan leading the way in offering emotional support.
Speaking to FEMAIL, Judi explained: “The couple actively engaged in listening and used mirroring gestures during their interactions. Meghan, in particular, seemed to notice the emotional state of a woman removing her glasses as she became tearful. Meghan responded by clamping her lips in a sympathetic expression before moving in to offer a hug. She leaned her head on the woman’s shoulder, amplifying the emotional intensity of the gesture.”
Harry, meanwhile, mirrored Meghan’s actions to some degree, placing his hand on arms and shoulders in supportive gestures. However, Judi noted that Meghan appeared more comfortable and "natural" with the closer, more intense physical interactions. As the couple concluded their visit, their exit was described as "sympathetic and supportive." Judi remarked that their gestures, including hugs and touches, conveyed genuine empathy. She added: “The casually dressed couple left hand-in-hand, presumably feeling they had made a meaningful contribution during this tragic, ongoing disaster.”
The Los Angeles wildfires have taken a devastating toll, claiming 16 lives and consuming nearly 14,000 acres. An estimated 4,000 to 5,000 structures, including homes of Hollywood celebrities, have been damaged or destroyed. President Joe Biden described the catastrophic scene as akin to a "war zone" and warned the death toll could rise, underscoring the severity of the ongoing crisis.
