Hollywood Showmance? Why Timothée and Kylie May Not Be As Loved-Up As They Appear

Once again, Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner have given the public yet another highly visible display of their relationship, this time in Paris on Wednesday, where they were reunited amidst Chalamet's ongoing publicity tour for his Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown. Jenner, true to her style, showcased her signature pout while clinging to Chalamet's arm as the couple navigated through a crowd of paparazzi eager to capture the 'romantic' evening.
It’s been two weeks since the pair were last seen together, during a high-profile appearance at the Golden Globes. There, Jenner seemed intent on showcasing their chemistry, donning a striking chainmail Versace gown and basking in Chalamet's Oscar buzz. She leaned in to kiss his sparse mustache, seemingly captivated by his charm.
While their public displays of affection may be frequent, the passion between the two seems less than convincing. Perhaps the Golden Globe for best "showmance" should go to Chalamet and Jenner. While Chalamet is hailed as one of the most talented actors of his generation, his pairing with Jenner—reality star and makeup mogul—seems less than natural.
Neither their recent outing in Paris nor their appearance together at the Golden Globes—where Chalamet was nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of Bob Dylan—has done much to quell the persistent rumors about the authenticity of their relationship.
At the Globes, Jenner's public displays of affection—like snapping photos of Chalamet on a Y2K-era digital camera and cupping his face—felt as lackluster as Zoe Saldana's overly sweet acceptance speech. Even the yellow tail jalapenos from Nobu's Michelin menu seemed to generate more heat than their chemistry.
Speculation about the couple has been swirling for some time. Their appearances together have been sporadic since they were first linked in April 2023. They’re rarely spotted on casual outings or intimate moments, with most of their public interactions appearing to consist of carefully staged gestures at major events like the US Open and Beyoncé's Renaissance concert.
Chalamet's loyal fanbase seems unconvinced by the romance. For one, his relationship with Jenner seems like a stark contrast to the rappers she’s been linked with in the past, including Travis Scott, the father of her two children.
The Kardashian-Jenner world, rooted in reality TV, sex tapes, and a revolving door of high-profile relationships, feels worlds apart from Chalamet’s more private, introspective persona. Known for his philosophical musings, the 29-year-old actor once shared his thoughts on destiny, saying, “You could be the master of your fate, you could be the captain of your soul. But you have to realize that life is coming from you and not at you, and that takes time."
This juxtaposition between their worlds has only fueled the ongoing skepticism surrounding their relationship.
